Art book design featuring fluorescent ink overprinting by Design Project

Book design to publicise the art of privacy

‘Privacy’ was a nine day programme of symposia, initiated by the Henry Moore Foundation Contemporary Projects and Olaf Nicolai, in collaboration with artist collective Protoacademy. The symposia focussed on the potential of privacy as a framework and a tool for constructing alternative identities. To document the symposia Design Project were commissioned by the collective to provide creative design for a book and production management of the printing.

Art book design for Protoacademy by Design Project

Book design:

To establish a visual theme for the book cover design, Design Project created a series of patterns derived from security graphics found on everyday mass-produced print such as envelopes containing bank statement and confidential information. These patterns were visually developed into circular motifs which were then overprinted in different colour combinations and used to punctuate the chapters of the book. Lithographic printing the patterns using CMYK equivalent fluorescent inks, gives the art book design a visually enhanced “super-colour” aesthetic. The book includes in-depth interviews, critical essays, artist project notes and photographic documentation.
